[0026] Blockchains are purely distributed systems that lack centralized management and instead rely on the intermediary of a global peer-to-peer (p2p) network of participants. While this design presents significant opportunity and disruptive potential in many areas, it is also the source of a critical problem in existing blockchain networks, namely scalability. As an example, the well-known blockchain known as Bitcoin has a throughput that is 3-4 orders of magnitude smaller than its centralized counterparts, such as the major credit card operator networks. Described in this paper is a system that allows blockchain scalability via a centrally managed network infrastructure. The described system also allows for complete decentralization of control of transactions in the blockchain, achieved via a neutral and auditable design of the centrally managed network.

Abstract

A server in the blockchain distribution network includes a processor and a transceiver operatively coupled to the processor. The transceiver is configured to receive bytes of the transaction from the first peer node. The transceiver is also configured to propagate the bytes of the transaction to one or more additional peer nodes and one or more additional servers in the blockchain distribution network. The transceiver is also configured to receive bytes of the blockchain from the second peer node. The blockchain includes information about a plurality of transactions, and the plurality of transactions includes the transaction. The transceiver is also configured to propagate the bytes of the blockchain to one or more additional peer nodes and one or more additional servers in the blockchain distribution network.
