Embodiments of the present disclosure relate to a magnetic system, a magnetic system knob, equipment having the magnetic system, and a method for determining movement. The present invention relates toa magnetic knob system (100). The magnetic knob system (100) is provided with a plate (102) having a positioning magnet (106) and a knob (104) having a complementary positioning magnet (106'). The knob (104) is rotatable on the plate (102), and the knob (104) and plate (102) are separable from each other. The knob (104) includes: a vertically movable element (108), and a magnetic detection circuit (110) configured to detect a change in the magnetic field (112) caused by vertical movement of the vertically movable element (108). The invention also relates to a knob (104), equipment having a magnetic knob system (100) and a method (1000).
