Embodiment Construction

[0026] Embodiments of the electrothermal patch disclosed by the present invention are described in detail with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein the same reference numerals indicate the same or corresponding elements in each of the multiple views.

[0027] Modern heating pads employ safety circuits to protect the user, which can be risky to the user since they are powered by 120 or 240 VAC. There are often situations where AC line power is not available, and for these situations, a removable heating type is applied, usually in the form of a chemical patch that can last up to eight hours. In today's modern environment, low voltage is typically available through USB ports found in laptops and PCs, power banks for extended charging of phones and tablets, car dashboards, adapters for cigarette lighter sockets, and AC adapters power supply.

[0028] Embodiments of the multiple-use self-adhesive electronic thermal patch are provided by the present invention. The ther...

Abstract

A patch applied to the body to relieve pain, including a heating portion that is powered by a USB cable with temperature and time control, and including a reusable adhesive for multiple uses.

Description

Background technique [0001] The use of heat to treat muscle and joint pain is well established. Heat therapy using a heating pad increases blood circulation and improves joint and muscle tone for pain relief. Heating pads have been around for over 100 years. Common heating patches utilize a chemical exothermic reaction that is activated by air when the heating patch is removed from its sealed package. Other types include microwavable gel packs that are placed in containers. Instead of using a heating pad that plugs into a stationary power source, these devices make thermal therapy mobile. Both chemical and microwavable thermal patches have a temperature change over time. For example, a chemical patch takes a few minutes to activate, followed by a few hours of increased temperature, followed by a few hours of lower temperature. Microwavable types are hot at first and then decrease in temperature over time. Neither chemical nor microwaveable types have precise and consiste...
