Embodiment Construction

[0044] As used herein, the singular forms "a", "an" and "the" refer to one or more than one unless the context clearly dictates otherwise.

[0045] As used herein, the term "comprises" means "including." For example, a device comprising or including A and B contains A and B, but can alternatively contain C or other components in addition to A and B. A device comprising or comprising A or B may comprise A or B or A and B, and optionally one or more other components (such as C).

[0046] Refer to Figure 1, Figure 2A and Figure 4 , the present application relates to an implantable prosthetic device 10 having a frame 12 configured to inwardly bias sutures 17 used to attach a valve component to the frame 12 . As used in this application, the term "suture" includes, but is not limited to, polymeric materials (e.g., Ethibond sutures), threads, cords, fibers, wires, other coilable materials, organic and inorganic material or any other material acceptable for medical applications and ...

Abstract

An implantable prosthetic valve assembly, according to one embodiment, comprises a frame assembly including a plurality of struts and a prosthetic valve secured inside the frame assembly by sutures. The sutures are inward of the outermost surface of an outer periphery of the frame assembly. In certain embodiments the struts contain recesses in which sutures can be disposed. In other embodiments, the struts can have holes through them which the sutures pass through. The implantable prosthetic valve assembly can also be collapsed within a catheter such that an outermost surface of a periphery ofthe frame assembly touches the catheter but the sutures are spaced apart from the catheter or are flush with the outer surface of the frame.

Description

technical field [0001] The present disclosure relates to implantable devices, and more particularly, to valve prostheses for implantation in the circulatory system, such as native heart valve annulus. Background technique [0002] The human heart can suffer from various valvular diseases. These valvular diseases can lead to serious heart dysfunction and eventually require replacement of the natural valve with an artificial valve. There are many known artificial valves and many known methods of implanting these artificial valves in the human body. [0003] Various surgical techniques can be used to repair diseased or damaged valves. In valve replacement, the damaged leaflets are removed, and the annulus is shaped to accommodate the replacement valve. Due to aortic stenosis and other heart valve diseases, thousands of patients undergo surgery each year in which the defective natural heart valve is replaced with a bioprosthetic or mechanical prosthetic valve. Another less s...
