Embodiment Construction

[0035] Preferred features of the invention will now be described with particular reference to the accompanying drawings. It should be understood, however, that the features shown in and described with reference to the drawings are not to be construed as limiting the scope of the invention.

[0036] refer to Figures 1 to 3 , the sliding joint 10 is intended to be used in the first structural component 50 ( Figure 4 and 5 shown) and the second structural component 52 ( Figure 4 and 5 As shown), the first structural component 50 is supported on or connected to a second structural component 52, in this example a masonry wall.

[0037] The slip joint 10 has a strip 12 spanning the second structural component 52 in the space marked A. The width of the strip 12 is selected to accommodate various widths of the second structural component 52 . As an example, if the second structural component 52 is a brickwork with a width of 110mm, the space A will be approximately 117mm wide...

Abstract

The present invention provides a slip joint (10) for use beneath a first structural component (50) supported on or connected to a second structural component (52) during construction. The slip joint (10) has a strip (12) for spanning a second structural component (52). The strip (12) has opposing sides (18) and (20), and a skirt (22) and (32) on each opposing side (18) and (20). Each skirt (22) and (32) is generally perpendicular to the strip (12). Each skirt (22, 32) is removable after the first structural assembly (50) is in place.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to an improved sliding joint for construction. Background technique [0002] Slip joints are used in construction situations where a component such as a slab, concrete beam or load-bearing brickwork is supported or connected to another component such as a wall or pier. A certain amount of movement must be allowed between components due to expansion, contraction, or minor ground movements. Sliding joints are intended for these purposes to provide a low-friction interface between components and to ensure load transfer without localized fretting. [0003] Slip joints are usually sheets or strips of varying lengths that can be cut to size or joined end to end to facilitate application. [0004] During construction, the slip joint must be held in place while locating the components to be supported. Adhesive is usually used, and tape can be used if desired. This process is labor intensive. [0005] Also, the slip joint may ...
