Embodiment Construction

[0030] The present invention relates to missiles that strike targets at penetration velocities. The cruise rocket motor is used to maintain the speed of the missile at the cruising speed, and then the acceleration rocket motor is used to increase the speed of the missile to the appropriate penetration speed, followed by attacking the target. In particular, the invention may be used to form armor-piercing projectiles or armor-piercing missiles.

[0031] For purposes of this specification and the appended claims, penetration velocity includes a velocity that, for example, allows a missile to penetrate a target while striking the target.

[0032] Accelerated rocket motors include, but are not limited to, rocket fuel which, when ignited, increases the velocity of the missile by increasing the penetration velocity.

[0033] A cruise rocket motor includes, but is not limited to, rocket fuel which, when ignited, maintains the missile in flight at a cruising speed, substantially any ...

Abstract

A projectile for piercing armor including a cruise propellant for maintaining a cruise velocity of the projectile. The projectile also includes an acceleration rocket motor activated after launch for accelerating the projectile from the cruise velocity to a penetration velocity, in a final stage of flight of the projectile.

Description

technical field [0001] The invention relates to an armor-piercing method and device, in particular to an armor-piercing projectile. Background technique [0002] Armor is widely used on the modern battlefield to protect combatants. Armored field vehicles such as tanks are not only well equipped, but their armor also protects the crew of the vehicle from attack. This armored vehicle poses a great threat to any attacking force. In addition, armored vehicles often employ various effective protections to further protect themselves. That is, deploying a protective screen comprising water, explosives, and mixtures thereof on the outer surface of the armor allows substantially the same opposing force to act on the attacking missile, thereby reducing the penetration of the attacking missile. [0003] Defense forces protecting themselves with conventional ballistic missiles aim the missiles at their targets through sights mounted on the barrel. Likewise, missiles or other small m...
