The image retrieval method comprises the steps of obtaining local visual features ofa to-be-recognized image; determining an expression vector of the to-be-identified image formed by a residual vector of the local visual feature based on the local visual feature; and retrieving a candidate image list of which the similarity with the expression vector exceeds a similarity threshold from a candidate image library. According to the embodiment, the residual vectors of the local visual features are utilized, the visual features of the to-be-recognized image can be further expressed, and therefore the accuracy of candidate image retrieval can be improved.
