Embodiment Construction

[0034] initial reference figure 1 , figure 1 is a schematic front view of a station for first-pass packaging of tissue samples. The first packaging station is located in the operating room. The first packaging station comprises an electronic control computer 1, a volume sensor 2 for measuring the volume of surgically explanted tissue T or another organ, an electronic device 3 in which is installed the software for the selected container, a first printer 4, First barcode reader 5 etc. These last components of the first packaging station are positioned on the table 6 , while the volume sensor 2 is shown fixed to the wall 7 . However, even if not shown, the volume sensor 2 may be portable or desktop. The tissue T whose volume is to be estimated is supported on a base 9 via a support 8 . As an alternative to the electronic control computer 1 and to the electronic device 3 in which the software for the selected container is installed, a laptop computer for the management of th...

Abstract

A system for preserving a surgically explanted tissue sample has a first packing station for placing the tissue sample in a selected container among a plurality of containers of different sizes. Eachcontainer has a hermetic lid (50) with an opening (33) equipped with a non-return valve (51). The system also has a final packing station equipped with a filling system for filling the selected container with a preservative substance, including a nozzle-holding head (28) mounted movable on a vertical guide (29). A method is also described which provides for the selection of the container based onthe evaluation of the volume of the tissue sample, the hermetic closure of the container immediately after the insertion of the tissue sample, and the filling of the container by means of a nozzle (31) of a filling system inserted in the non-return valve (51) of the hermetic lid (50).

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to systems and methods for preserving surgically explanted tissue samples. [0002] The system provides a disposable container adapted to contain a tissue sample in a preservative substance and a machine for a medical professional to introduce said preservative substance into the container itself under safe conditions. [0003] The preservative substance may be a fixative-preservation solution; and other most commonly used solutions where there are solutions which must be legally used and transported due to the presence of substances known to be toxic by contact and inhalation, avoid Risk of exposing medical professionals. Alternatively, the anti-corrosion substance can also be an inert gas such as nitrogen or a mixture of inert gases. Background technique [0004] A sample of human or animal tissue or organ or a portion of a tissue or organ that has been surgically explanted and is to be subjected to diagnostic histopat...
