The method comprises steps of responding to initial writing of data into a directory by a client, pre-applying for a quota space greater than the initial writing data volume from a metadata server, and caching the quota space to the client; in response to completion of initial data writing, updating the remaining quota space; in response to the situation that the client writes data into the directory for the nth time and the remaining quota space after the last data writing is completed is smaller than the amount of the data written into the directory for the nth time, the quota space pre-applied this time being calculated on the basis of the remaining quota space after the last data writing is completed and the quota space pre-applied for the first time, and n being larger than or equal to 2; pre-applying for the quota space obtained by calculation from the metadata server, and continuing to write the data for the nth time; and reporting the quota cache information to the metadata server in response to the fact that the total usage amount of the quota space cached by the client reaches a preset threshold.
