Problems solved by technology

Each of these treatments for blocked blood vessels has certain disadvantages
For example, drugs can have various side effects, patients can be allergic to stents and / or develop infections from stents, and surgery can cause complications and only temporarily correct the problem

Embodiment Construction

[0040] Some examples presented herein can be used to aid in the displacement and removal of plaque within the vasculature. Some examples presented herein can be used to isolate a lesion during plaque translocation such that plaque residing on the vessel wall can be displaced and removed from the vasculature while inhibiting migration of displaced plaque fragments from the treatment site . To meet some or all of these needs, an exemplary system may include: an inner tube having a distal occlusive element that is expandable in a distal direction relative to the treatment site; a balloon guide catheter that a guide catheter having thereon a balloon inflatable in said proximal direction relative to the treatment site and a lumen through which an inner tube can penetrate; and a plaque displacement device occludeable upon deployment distal The plaque at the treatment site is mechanically displaced while the element and the proximal balloon are in place.

Abstract

The invention relates to intravascular plaque isolation, destabilization, and aspiration. The invention provides a system for extracting plaque from a cavity of a vasculature, which can include a balloon guide catheter (BGC) and an adjustable plaque displacement apparatus. The BGC can include a BGC distal end, an expandable proximal balloon, an inflation lumen extending through the BGC and including a first opening. The BGC can further include a device delivery lumen and a second opening positioned distal to the expandable proximal balloon. Also, the BGC can include an inner tube extending through the device delivery lumen. The inner tube can include a tube distal end, an expandable distal occlusion element positioned approximate the tube distal end and movable to exit the second opening. Turning to the adjustable plaque displacement apparatus, the adjustable plaque displacement apparatus can be positioned within the device delivery lumen and movable in at least one of a longitudinal and rotational direction in relation to the BGC.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates generally to medical devices and, more particularly, to devices for intravascular plaque isolation, destabilization, aspiration and removal. Background technique [0002] Atherosclerosis is caused by lesions that narrow and reduce the spaces in the lumens of blood vessels in the vasculature. Such lesions usually consist of plaque, which can be fat, cholesterol, calcium, or other components of the blood. Severe occlusions or closures can block the flow of oxygenated blood to different organs and parts of the body and lead to other cardiovascular diseases such as heart attack or stroke. Narrowing or narrowing of blood vessels increases the risk that clots and other emboli may become lodged in such locations, especially in neurovascular vessels where the vessel diameter is already small. Intracranial atherosclerotic disease (ICAD) is the narrowing of those arteries and vessels that supply blood to the brain, and is the most...
