Embodiment Construction

[0019] Reference will now be made in detail to the present teachings, examples of which are illustrated in the accompanying drawings. In the drawings, the same reference numerals are used to refer to the same elements throughout. In the following description, reference is made to the accompanying drawings which form a part hereof, and in which are shown by way of illustration specific examples for practicing the present teachings. Accordingly, the following description is exemplary only.

[0020] The systems and methods disclosed herein use binary phase correlation to detect moving objects in a series of frames of images or video. The systems and methods can detect moving objects in the presence of a static background (eg, when a camera capturing an image or video frame is stationary). The systems and methods can also detect moving objects in the presence of a dynamic / moving background (eg, when the camera capturing the image or video frame is moving).

[0021] The systems ...

Abstract

A method for detection and a computer system. The method includes identifying a first image that is captured at a first time. The method also includes segmenting the first image into a plurality of first image portions. The method also includes identifying a second image that is captured at a second time. The method also includes segmenting the second image into a plurality of second image portions. The method also includes comparing one of the plurality of first image portions and a corresponding one of the plurality of second image portions. The method also includes determining a difference between the first image and the second image based at least partially upon the comparison. The method also includes transforming the first image into a transformed first image based at least partially upon the difference.

Description

technical field [0001] This disclosure relates to foreground extraction. More specifically, the present disclosure relates to detecting moving objects in the foreground of an image or video frame captured by a camera that is also moving. Background technique [0002] Foreground extraction is any technique that allows extracting the foreground of an image for further processing such as object recognition, tracking, etc. A common assumption in foreground extraction is that the foreground consists of moving objects, while the background is static. However, a common scenario encountered by autonomous vehicles is a moving background with independently moving foreground objects (e.g. when trying to detect moving objects with a camera attached to a vehicle that is itself moving). Traditional methods fail in these scenes because they classify everything as foreground because everything is moving. One traditional approach uses optical flow to detect objects that move differently f...
