Abstract

A press for shaping an absorbent tampon blank into a shaped tampon wadding, the press comprising: a central cavity arranged and configured to receive an absorbent tampon blank having a front portion and a rear portion. A main longitudinal axis of the press passes intermediate the central cavity, and a plurality of penetrating dies are arranged radially about the main longitudinal axis. Each penetrating die has a pressing surface on at least one segment of its side facing the central cavity. The press includes at least one cam to actuate the plurality of penetrating dies. Further, the plurality of penetrating dies includes at least one penetrating die having a pressing face with a first shaped longitudinal profile and at least one penetrating die having a pressing face with a second shaped longitudinal profile. A shaped tampon and uses of such shaped tampons are also disclosed.
