Abstract

A sampling needle for puncturing a septum of a vial containing a sample and aspirating the sample from the vial is provided. The needle may include a tubular core having a lumen extending therethrough and a piercing end, where the tubular core is formed of a bioinert material; a hollow support surrounding the tubular core and the piercing end extending outwardly from the support, where the support is formed of a rigid material; and a bioinert coating covering a portion of the support adjacent the piercing end, where the tubular core and cover isolate the support from the sample.
