Problems solved by technology

However, this first solution is not always applicable and also requires the user to give up the possibility of whiteboard communication while the records are being indexed
As a second solution, more than one whiteboard recording can also be displayed en masse in the form of thumbnails on the active display for the user to browse, but in this solution, it is difficult to perceive the information in the recording

Embodiment Construction

[0021] The following description of preferred embodiments is merely illustrative of the nature of the invention and is in no way intended to limit the invention, its application or uses.

[0022] Referring to Figure 1a, there is shown a whiteboard device 10 according to the prior art, featuring a rolling panel 12 and a fixed scanner (not shown) concealed within a frame 14 . The scroll panel 12 has two or four writing surfaces, and each writing surface can be used by scrolling the panel in the horizontal direction. The whiteboard device also has a printer 16 that prints the scanned records onto hard copy. A user may mark the scroll panel 12 with a standard dry erase marker and erase the marks as desired with an eraser, cloth, fingertip, or other means. The user can then print the finished whiteboard record by activating the scan mode, in which the scroll panel 12 scrolls in the horizontal direction and a fixed scanner (not shown) hidden in the frame 14 generates and simultaneo...

Abstract

The application discloses an index and retrieval system and method for scanned notes from whiteboard, wherein an illustrative demonstration apparatus for use in storing information in a memory is disclosed. The apparatus comprises a reusable panel for temporary display of user-drawn marks, a digitizer for generating digital information corresponding to the user-drawn marks, and an indexer for associating the digital information with a header. The header is based at least in part on a selected portion of the user-drawn marks selected by the user. The apparatus may also feature a redisplay capability permitting redisplay of the user-drawn marks on the reusable panel based on the digital information.

Description

technical field [0001] This invention relates to an indexing and retrieval system for information processing of marks drawn by a user, and more particularly to an indexing and retrieval system for records scanned from a whiteboard. Background technique [0002] Whiteboards are popular collaboration tools widely used in business and technical community endeavors. Many developments in whiteboard design have been inspired by the ease with which individuals working together on a project can communicate ideas to each other intuitively by utilizing one or more whiteboards. [0003] Probably the most important development in whiteboard design is the ability to save and share whiteboard notes in a variety of ways. For example, some whiteboards with traditional white panels used with dry-erase markers employ scanners to scan records into digital form for printing onto hard copy. Many of these whiteboards also have the ability to communicate with a computer to save records to memory...
