Embodiment Construction

[0029] In the two embodiments shown in the figures, piston cooling nozzles for internal combustion engines each comprise a nozzle body 1, an internal valve 2 and an outlet structure 3 for delivering cooling fluid leaving the valve and delivering it in the form of a jet at least Directed towards the back of the piston to be cooled.

[0030] The nozzle body 1 has an inlet portion 4 shaped such that it can be inserted into a bore of the engine for receiving cooling fluid arriving through said bore in the engine. The nozzle body 1 has a protruding portion 5 for protruding into the engine cylinder and for mounting the outlet structure 3 .

[0031] In both embodiments, the internal valve 2 comprises a piston 6 having a downstream section 7 which slides longitudinally with a cylindrical lateral guide surface 8 in a guide hole 9 of the nozzle body 1 . The piston 6 comprises a head 10 oriented in an upstream direction defined with respect to the direction of flow of the cooling fluid ...

Abstract

A cooling nozzle in accordance with the invention cools the piston of an internal combustion engine. The nozzle includes a nozzle body (1) with a penetrating part (4) shaped to engage in a bore of the engine and to receive a cooling fluid. The nozzle includes an internal valve consisting of a piston (6) guided and sliding in a guide bore (9) of the nozzle body (1). The piston (6) includes a head (10) oriented in the upstream direction and bearing against an annular seat (11). The piston is urged towards the annular seat (11) by a compression coil spring (13). The cooling nozzle for high-pressure engine cooling circuits and incorporating an internal valve obtained therefore has greater durability.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to nozzles for cooling pistons of internal combustion engines, which spray a cooling liquid, such as oil, on the back of the piston, ie on the piston face outside the combustion chamber, or in the piston passage. Background technique [0002] Commonly used piston cooling nozzles are separate components that are fixed to the engine housing and communicate with the cooling fluid feed holes. The nozzles are precisely positioned to produce a jet of cooling fluid directed at a precise area on the back of the piston, or piston passage. [0003] Cooling nozzles typically include a valve to block the flow of cooling fluid until the pressure in the cooling circuit exceeds a certain threshold. [0004] In commonly used nozzle configurations, the valve is a ball spring-loaded against a valve seat by a compression spring to shut off the passage of cooling fluid. These structures are short and compact. [0005] The inventors have fo...
