The applicator comprises a flexible support 10 with a pair of electrically actuated elastic actuators 50 and a control 30 mounted on the user's body (eg, on clothing or in a pocket). The flexible support 10 includes a body 11 of stretchable fabric adapted to fit around a part of the body, such as a knee joint, and fasteners 12 for securing the support to the body. Body 11 can be made into sleeve or bandage form, as Figure 8 shown. Actuator 50 is an electrostrictive polymer actuator as is known, and consists of a non-conductive core 51 and a pair of flexible electrodes 60 located on opposite sides of core 51 .
