Embodiment Construction

[0032] In FIGS. 1 and 4 , the reference numeral 1 generally designates a rod core choke, which is used, for example, as a lamp choke in an electronic ballast for a fluorescent lamp (not shown).

[0033] A lamp choke 1 generally comprises a winding 2 of copper wire coiled around a plastic bobbin 3 having a ferrite core 4 inserted therein so that the bobbin 3 (and winding 2 ) surrounds the ferrite core 4.

[0034] As clearly shown in Figure 2, the ferrite core 4 is generally in the form of a small rod-shaped ferrite having a long and narrow solid shape.

[0035] According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, the solid shape is a parallelepiped.

[0036] Typically, the ferrite core 4 has a generally rectangular cross-section, with a length in the range of 14 mm, (typical suitable dimensions are 3 x 3.5 mm). Of course, these quantitative data are exemplary only and should not be construed as limiting the scope of the invention.

Abstract

A rod core choke, for use e.g. in an electronic ballast of a fluorescent lamp, includes: a core (4) in the form of a rod having long and narrow solid shape, a sheath (bobbin 3) of an electrically insulating material surrounding said core (4) and a wire winding (2) around the said sheath (3), whereby said sheath (3) mutually insulates said core (4) and said wire winding (2). According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, said core is in form of a rod having parallelepiped shape.

Description

technical field [0001] The invention concerns so-called "choke coils". Background technique [0002] A core choke for interference suppression is described, for example, in DE-A-4241604. The core choke disclosed therein comprises a winding having a different number of layers along the core area. [0003] The winding consists of an insulated wire wound directly on a ferrite core, a construction which is currently also used for so-called "barrel" core chokes, for example in compact lamps in the low power range. Copper wire windings are usually used, which are electrically connected by means of two pins glued on opposite surfaces of the barrel itself. The bobbin facilitates the direct coiling of the copper wire around the ferrite core, while the winding is placed laterally between two ferrite disks at the ends of the core. [0004] These prior art structures exhibit a number of disadvantages. [0005] First, if the wire is coiled directly on a ferrite core, in order to prov...
