Embodiment Construction

[0056] Referring first to FIGS. 8 and 8a, there are shown scenarios of failures in a telecommunication system supporting EPL services using GFP encapsulation according to the prior art.

[0057] In particular, Fig. 8 shows a telecommunications system TCS supporting EPL services between the first Ethernet endpoint A'and the second Ethernet endpoint B'. The telecommunication system TCS includes a synchronous transport network TN. The first Ethernet endpoint A'is connected to the first node A of the network TN via a bidirectional Ethernet link ELA. Similarly, the second Ethernet endpoint B'is connected to the second node B of the network TN through a bidirectional Ethernet link ELB. Both links ELA and ELB support Ethernet auto-negotiation.

[0058] Both the first node A and the second node B are suitable for implementing the GFP adaptation function.

[0059] The first node A and the second node B are connected by a bidirectional transmission link TL, which includes a number of interm...

Abstract

A method is described for managing and propagating a failure indication in a telecommunication system. The telecommunication system comprises at least a synchronous transport network (TN) and a packet-switched network (ELB) which is connected to the synchronous transport network (TN) by means of a node (B) having a transport side towards the synchronous transport network (TN) and a packet side towards the packet-switched network (ELA). According to the invention, the method comprises the following steps, which are performed by said node (B): detecting a first failure (F) at the transport side (TN); performing consequent actions in the output direction at the packet side (ELB); detecting at the packet side (ELB) a second failure which is caused by said consequent actions; and ignoring the second failure.

Description

Technical field [0001] The present invention generally relates to the field of telecommunications, and particularly to a telecommunications system that transmits packets on a synchronous transmission network. More particularly, the present invention relates to a method for managing and disseminating fault indications in a telecommunication system that uses GFP encapsulation to transmit packets on a synchronous transmission network. Background technique [0002] It is well known to transmit information in packets in packet-switched networks. Examples of packet switching networks are Ethernet, IP network, and ATM network. [0003] It is also known to send information in a synchronous transmission network by a continuous bit stream carried by a synchronous frame. Examples of synchronous transport networks are SDH networks, Sonet networks, or optical transport networks (OTN). [0004] The synchronous transport network can support packet transmission. For example, by transmitting Ethe...
