Problems solved by technology

However, this conventional steady-state analysis alone can lead to composite signals that are fairly stable but actually contain perceptually relevant information that is misclassified as noise
The downside is that this misclassification can cause problems as described above

Embodiment Construction

[0029] figure 1 Relevant parts of an exemplary speech coding device according to the present invention are schematically shown. Such a speech coding device can be installed, for example, in a radio receiver for the transmission of audio information via a radio communication channel. An example of such a radio receiver is a mobile radiotelephone, such as a cellular mobile telephone.

[0030] exist figure 1 In , the input audio signal is input to a composite signal activity detector (CAD) and a voice activity detector (VAD). The composite signal activation detector CAD responds to the audio input signal and performs correlation analysis to determine whether the input signal includes relevant information perceived by the listener, and then outputs a set of signal-related parameters to the VAD. The VAD uses these signal-related parameters in conjunction with the received audio input signal to determine whether the input audio signal is speech or noise. VAD acts as a speech / noi...

Abstract

Perceptually relevant non-speech information can be preserved during encoding of an audio signal by determining whether the audio signal includes such information. If so, a speech / noise classification of the audio signal is overriden to prevent misclassification of the audio signal as noise.

Description

[0001] This application is a divisional application of the application dated November 12, 1999, the application number is 99813625.5, and the invention title is "composite signal activation detection for improved speech / noise classification of audio signals". This application claims priority under 35 USC 119(e)(1) to co-pending provisional application US60 / 109556, filed November 23, 1998. technical field [0002] This invention relates to audio signal compression, and more particularly to speech / noise classification when compressing audio signals. Background technique [0003] Speech coders and decoders are usually set in radio transmitters and radio receivers respectively, and they can work simultaneously, so that voice (voice) communication can be carried out along radio communication lines between a given transmitter and receiver . The combination of a speech coder and a speech decoder is often referred to as a speech codec. A mobile radiotelephone, such as a cellular m...
