Embodiment Construction

[0011] The laminate structures of the present invention may be used in laminates comprising coated paperboard substrates for the production of containers and cartons for food products such as juices, juice drinks, milk and other beverages. The multi-layer laminate structure includes a cardboard substrate, one or more functional barrier layers of aluminum foil, nylon, EVOH or PET overlapped on the inner surface of the substrate, and one or more functional barrier layers overlapped on the inner surface of the substrate. The polyolefin layer on the layer, at least one of the polyolefin layers is added with inorganic granular fillers. A tie layer may be provided, and said tie layer may or may not be provided with inorganic particulate filler. A polyolefin layer is preferably coated on the outer surface of the paperboard substrate.

[0012] The particulate fillers for incorporation into food contact layers, sublayers and tie layers can be inorganic or organic materials, preferably...

Abstract

A laminate structure having improved resistance to the migration of essential oils, aromas and flavors and improved oxygen barrier characteristics for beverage packaging comprising an exterior coating of polyethylene applied onto the outer surface of paperboard substrate, a barrier layer of aluminum foil, EVOH, polyamide or PET applied directly .or indirectly onto the paperboard and tie and other sublayers which may or may not contain inorganic filler applied intermediate the barrier layer and the innermost food contact layer which contain filler. The containers or cartons prepared from the laminate structures are characterized by minimized scalping and preserved product quality.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to paperboard laminates for food packaging, and more particularly to paperboard laminates for effectively reducing scalping of flavor components by providing polymeric materials in the laminate between the food product and a functional oxygen barrier layer. Paperboard laminates for food packaging. More specifically, the present invention relates to laminate structures in which the innermost food contact seal layer is filled with inorganic particulate fillers for reducing flavor and aroma components from the food to the primary function of the laminate. Migration of the polymeric layer on the food contact side of the barrier layer. Background technique [0002] Scalping is a term used to describe the net loss of product due to a perceived loss of product quality due to packaging. Food loss is almost always a negative effect, so there are ways to try to minimize it. [0003] Packaging of food products ...
