Embodiment Construction

[0041] Matters such as specific structures and elements defined in the specification are for the purpose of helping comprehensive understanding of the embodiments of the present invention, and thus are merely exemplary. Accordingly, those of ordinary skill in the art will recognize that various changes and modifications of the embodiments described herein can be made without departing from the scope and spirit of the invention. Also, descriptions of well-known functions and constructions are omitted for clarity and conciseness.

[0042] A closed-loop MIMO communication system using a codebook that can reduce codebook search complexity is exemplarily described below. A codebook may be designed using a beamforming matrix or a beamforming vector according to the number of transmission streams. The following will take a codebook designed using beamforming vectors as an example.

Abstract

A receiver and transmitter of a closed-loop MIMO antenna system using a codebook and a receiving and transmitting method thereof are provided. The receiver of the MIMO antenna system includes a window size decider and a beamforming weight selector. The window size decider stores a codebook with beamforming weights and selects the beamforming weights corresponding to a window size from the codebook, and the beamforming weight selector selects an optimal beamforming weight based on a current channel state among the beamforming weights outputted from the window size decider, and feeds back the selected optimal beamforming weight to a transmitter.

Description

[0001] Related Application Cross Reference [0002] This application claims priority to Application No. 10-2005-48655 filed in the Korean Intellectual Property Office on Jun. 8, 2005, the entire disclosure of which is incorporated herein by reference. technical field [0003] The present invention generally relates to closed-loop multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems that achieve performance gains by using channel information. The present invention specifically designs a device and method for searching a codebook in a closed-loop MIMO communication system using a codebook. Background technique [0004] In a MIMO communication system, although the receiver knows the channel information, the transmitter does not know the channel information. In order to improve system performance, the transmitter needs to know the channel information. A time division duplex (TDD) system can estimate the downlink channel at the transmitter, assuming that the uplink channel is the same...
