Embodiment Construction

[0023] As noted above, a communications device may include an operating system kernel or "operating kernel" and applications that operate through the kernel. The role of the kernel is to enable applications to operate independently of hardware (communication device manufacturer, model, etc.) and network infrastructure (network protocol version, protocol type, etc.), and by providing a set of "Function" makes application development more convenient. The functions are accessible to applications through a clearly defined interface.

[0024] Thus, in FIG. 1 the communication device is shown comprising a kernel K and a space dedicated to the application AS ("user space" or "user land").

[0025] The operating kernel K includes one or more protocol stacks PS, as well as other functions (not shown). In the context of the present invention, said protocol stack preferably complies with the IPv6 (Internet Protocol Version 6) protocol. The protocol stack PS is first connected to the i...

Abstract

The method involves connecting input modules (MIN) and output modules (MOUT) to an input interface (HIN) and output interface (HOUT), respectively. Data packets of network discovery protocol (NDP) are selected, analyzed and modified, conforming to SEND mechanism, by the modules in a manner transparent to kernel (K) of an operating system such as Linux system or Berkeley Software Distribution operating system. An independent claim is also included for a communication equipment comprising an operating system kernel.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to managing Internet Protocol Version 6 (IPv6) data packets in a communication device, and more particularly to a security-procuring method for securing a communication device. Background technique [0002] Some of these data packets conform to the Network Discovery Protocol (NDP) as defined by Request for Comments (RFC) 2461 of the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF). [0003] The protocol defines "self-configuration" and "network discovery" ("ND") packets, which allow devices of an IPv6 communication network to determine their addresses and to know the individual devices connected on each link. The protocol also enables each device to be notified of changes occurring on said link, for example when a "neighboring" device becomes inaccessible. The item of equipment may be a router (or node), a host (ie terminal), a gateway, or any other equipment having means for transmitting and receiving IPv6 data packets. [0004] ...
