Embodiment Construction

[0102] The invention relates to a wear-resistant assembly for an excavator, in particular to a coupling structure for securing a wear-resistant element to an excavator cutting edge. In a preferred construction, the unique coupling includes an adapter 12, a wear element 14 and a lock for securing the wear element to the adapter. Several variations of the lock are disclosed below for use with substantially the same adapter 12 and wear element 14 (although there will be some slight variations for certain embodiments). Many variants are also possible for adapters and wear elements. For convenience, the following abradable element will be described as a crest or point for an excavating tooth, although the invention also relates to other abradable elements, such as cladding.

[0103]In a first embodiment, tooth 10 includes an adapter 12, a point or apex 14, and a lock 16 (Figs. 1-7). The adapter has a mounting end 18 (not all shown) adapted to be secured to the bucket lip of an ex...

Abstract

A wear assembly provided with tapered opening and a complementary tapered lock wherein the lock can be pried into and from the opening to thereby eliminate the need for hammering. The lock is formed with a body and a latch that is movable between a hold position where the latch is engageable with a stop in the opening to releasably retain the lock in the opening and a release position where the latch disengages the stop.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a novel arrangement for attaching wear parts to excavators or similar equipment. Background technique [0002] For ease of illustration, the inventions in this application are sometimes described in terms of relative terms, such as "upper" and "lower". These terms are generally to be understood with respect to the orientation of the wear assembly shown in FIG. 1 . However, the abradable assembly may be placed in various orientations, and these relative terms used to describe the invention do not limit the invention. [0003] Wear parts, such as teeth and cladding, have long been fastened along the digging edges of various excavators (such as the front flange of the hopper of front-loading equipment) in order to break up the dirt to be collected and protect the digging edge from It wears out prematurely. To facilitate replacement of wear parts and reduce the amount of material that needs to be replaced frequently, wea...
