Embodiment Construction

[0064] The present invention relates to a system and method for rearranging video data, so as to provide a more efficient transmission mode of the data bus. For example, the systems and methods described herein may be used within a computer system, particularly an integrated circuit chip or processor with a shared data bus. Packs video data into a tighter format to reduce redundant bits by rearranging active video data to fill unused space in data blocks. In this way, the video data can be transferred on the data bus with fewer frequency cycles, and the components in the system sharing the data bus will not have unnecessary stalls. In addition, reducing the number of clock cycles used to transmit data also provides greater bus bandwidth for bus users and reduces overall system power consumption.

[0065] In a computer processing system, a data bus, a memory controller, and an external memory are common resources shared by a processor, multiple host devices, and peripheral dev...

Abstract

The ivention provides a system and method for realigning the effective data in a data area to transmit on a data path. The said method transmittes the effective data at less frequency cycle through using existing untapped bit in the data block, in order to increase the utilization of the other cardinal extremity device. A system for transmitting data by data bus comprises one or more cardinal extremity devices, slave units and a data bus for connecting the cardinal extremity devices and slave unit. One slave unit is memory controller for storing data from external memory and for enclosing thedata transmitted on the data bus. One cardinal extremity device is video display controller for providing the video data to external video display and also for receiving the enclosed video data to transmit it to video display.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a computer system with master-slave devices sharing a data bus, and more particularly to a system and method for rearranging video data so that the video data can be more efficiently transmitted on the data bus. Background technique [0002] FIG. 1 shows a partial block diagram of a known integrated circuit (IC) chip 10 . The chip 10 includes x master devices (master) 12 and y slave devices (slave) 14 , wherein the master devices 12 and the slave devices 14 are connected to each other through a data bus 16 . The chip 10 also includes a bus arbiter (bus arbiter) 18, which is used to receive the bus arbitration request (bus arbitration request) sent by the master device 12, and only allows one master device 12 to control the data bus (data bus) at a time. )16. When one of the master devices 12 obtains the control right of the data bus 16 , the master device 12 that has obtained the control right can access any slave dev...
