[0023] Referring first to FIG. 1 , there is generally indicated at 10 a LNG carrier. The carrier vessel 10 carries a cargo of liquefied natural gas 12 contained in isolated membrane tanks (isolated membrane tanks do not form part of the invention, which may be replaced by spherical tanks of the so-called MOSS type). The transport vessel 10 is driven by a propulsion system 16 which in this case comprises a diesel engine, but which could alternatively be a diesel generator system, a dual fuel system or a steam power system. (At this point it should be noted that even though there are steam boilers in which the boil-off gas can be burned, some additional means of handling the boil-off gas is required in case the boiler is unavailable for any reason).
