Embodiment Construction

[0015] The invention relates to a method for automatically docking a boarding bridge 1, 2 or a cargo handling bridge to a door 3, 4 of an aircraft 5 at an airport boarding gate. The aircraft is positioned and parked at a predetermined location with the aid of a non-contact measurement of the known distance between the aircraft and a fixed point, which distance is displayed on a display 6 mounted in front of the pilot on the aircraft, such as on an airport structure 26 . The display 6 is used to show the pilot the position of the aircraft 5 relative to the aircraft's stop and to provide the pilot with the type of aircraft concerned. The distance meter 13 and said display 6 are activated in a known manner by the comprehensive data system assigned to the airport. A control computer suitable for controlling the movement of the boarding bridge is also available.

[0016] This distance is usually measured with the help of an IR laser system. The laser instrument is placed connect...

Abstract

A method of automatically docking a boarding bridge (1, 2) to a door (3, 4) of an aircraft (5) at an airport boarding gate, wherein the aircraft is detected by non-contact measurement of its distance from a fixed point Taken to and parked at a predetermined location, and where a control computer (14) is used to control the movement of the boarding bridge, and the person is required to give a start signal (24) after establishing the correct type of aircraft and the correct pattern for that type of aircraft , so that the control computer prompts the boarding bridge to move and dock.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a method for automatically docking a boarding bridge or cargo handling bridge to an aircraft door without the influence of the pilot. Background technique [0002] Currently, many airports include a bridge or walkway connected from the terminal building to the aircraft through which passengers travel to and from the aircraft. Many different types of boarding bridges are known to those of ordinary skill in the art, one type of bridge is known as a mobile telescoping bridge (MTB), which comprises a number of telescoping elements, where the outermost elements are steered with separate driven wheels rack support. The boarding bridge is maneuvered by means of the bogie towards and away from the aircraft in a firm standing position of the aircraft. At the junction of the bridge and the terminal building there is provided a rotunda which can rotate about a vertical axis and is supported by ground anchored columns. A pod rot...
