Abstract

The invention discloses a method and a device for notifying fault. The method comprises: when detecting that a multicast label switching path is in fault, sending fault information to a downstream node of a multicast tree where a fault point is positioned, and establishing the multicast label switching path based on a multicast label distribution protocol; and transmitting the fault information to a leaf node through the downstream node. By adopting the method and the device for notifying the fault, after a multicast LSP established on the basis of the multicast label distribution protocol is in fault, the method sends the fault information to the downstream node of the multicast tree where the fault point is positioned, and the downstream node after receiving the fault information continuously transmits the fault information according to conditions, so as to finally transmit the fault information to the leaf node; and after the leaf node acquires the fault information, proper measures can be taken to ensure normal running of service and improve reliability of a network.
