Embodiment Construction

[0044] figure 1 A front view of a modern wind turbine 1 is shown with a tower 2 positioned on a foundation 8 . The wind turbine nacelle 3 and hub 4 are positioned on top of the tower.

[0045] A wind turbine rotor 6 , comprising at least one rotor blade, for example two or three wind turbine blades 5 as shown in the figures, is connected to the wind hub 4 via a pitch structure 7 . Each pitch structure contains a blade bearing and a pitch actuator that allows the blade to be pitched.

[0046] figure 2 A rotor blade 5 of a wind turbine 1 is shown being inspected by a worker on a maintenance platform 10 in an embodiment of the invention.

[0047] Initially, the rotor is locked in such a position that the inspected rotor blades point downwards and the area below the lowest blade tip is secured with a warning tape (not shown).

[0048] Below is a maintenance platform 10 with workers lifted from an inspection vehicle 11 to the rotor blade location and an inspection system 9 attac...

Abstract

The invention relates to a method for inspecting at least one rotor blade of a wind turbine for damage such as subsurface blade cracks. The method comprises the steps of: attaching at least one acoustic emission sensor to a surface of a rotor blade to be inspected, exciting oscillations in the rotor blade for a time period, measuring activity signals of the oscillations in the rotor blade with said at least one acoustic emission sensor, and detaching said at least one acoustic emission sensor from said surface of said rotor blade after said inspection. The invention also relates to an inspection system (9) for a rotor blade (5) of a wind turbine (1).

Description

technical field [0001] The invention relates to a method of inspecting a rotor blade of a wind turbine and an inspection system for a rotor blade of a wind turbine. Background technique [0002] The use of inspections for wind turbines has increased significantly in recent years as major wind turbine components, particularly rotor blades, have increased in size and been designed closer to material constraints. [0003] One known solution consists of visually inspecting the rotor blade surface for cracks and similar damage, which is very time consuming and ineffective for subsurface damage. [0004] Another known solution consists in dismantling the rotor blades from the wind turbine and carrying out a more advanced inspection at an inspection centre. [0005] It is an object of the present invention to provide a local inspection solution for wind turbines without the above-mentioned disadvantages of the prior art. Contents of the invention [0006] The present invention ...
