Embodiment Construction

[0025] Throughout the drawings, the same reference signs are used for corresponding or similar elements.

[0026] The present invention relies on frequency domain processing on the decoding side of the encoding-decoding system. This frequency domain processing is called Noise Filling (NF), which can reduce coding artifacts that occur especially for low bit rates, and it can even be used to regenerate the full bandwidth at low rates and with low complexity schemes audio signal.

[0027] An embodiment of a general codec system for an audio signal is schematically illustrated in Fig. 1 . Audio source 10 produces audio signal 15 . The audio signal 15 is processed in an encoder 20 which produces a binary stream 25 comprising data representing the audio signal 15 . For example, in the case of multimedia communication, this binary stream 25 can be transmitted by transmission and / or storage means 30 . The transmission and / or storage device 30 may optionally also include a certain ...

Abstract

A method for perceptual spectral decoding comprises decoding of spectral coefficients recovered from a binary flux into decoded spectral coefficients of an initial set of spectral coefficients. The initial set of spectral coefficients are spectrum filled. The spectrum filling comprises noise filling of spectral holes by setting spectral coefficients in the initial set of spectral coefficients not being decoded from the binary flux equal to elements derived from the decoded spectral coefficients. The set of reconstructed spectral coefficients of a frequency domain formed by the spectrum filling is converted into an audio signal of a time domain. A perceptual spectral decoder comprises a noise filler, operating according to the method for perceptual spectral decoding.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates generally to methods and devices for encoding and decoding audio signals, and in particular to methods and devices for perceptual spectral decoding. Background technique [0002] When an audio signal is to be stored and / or transmitted, it is standard today to encode the audio signal into a digital representation according to different schemes. In order to conserve storage and / or transmission capacity, it is generally desirable to reduce the size of the digital representation required to allow reconstruction of an audio signal of sufficient perceptual quality. The trade-off between the size of the encoded signal and the signal quality depends on the actual application. [0003] In order to precisely encode the evolution of the amplitude of a time-domain signal, ie to describe it with a small amount of information, the time-domain signal is usually divided into smaller parts. State-of-the-art coding methods usually transfo...
