Problems solved by technology

[0018] It has been proposed to add Mg to this known 55% Al-Zn-Si coating composition in the patent literature several years ago, for example, U.S. Patent 6,635,359 filed in the name of Nippon Steel Corporation, but in the Australian market, Steel strip not yet coated with Al-Zn-Si-Mg

Embodiment Construction

[0076] The present invention is based on experimental work carried out by the applicant.

[0077] Specifically, the experimental work performed identified the following questions:

[0078] (a) Whether the ductility of the 55%Al-Zn-1.5%Si-2%Mg coating can be improved by annealing heat treatment,

[0079] (b) optimum holding temperature, and

[0080] (c) Aging behavior of heat-treated coatings, including heat-treated coatings subjected to subsequent coating bake cycle (paint bake cycle, PBC) heat treatment simulations.

Abstract

A coating of an Al—Zn—Si—Mg alloy on a steel strip that is applied by a hot dip process and is subsequently heat treated to improve the ductility of the coating.

Description

technical field [0001] The invention relates to strip, in particular steel strip, which has a corrosion resistant metal alloy coating. [0002] In particular, the invention relates to corrosion-resistant metal alloy coatings, which contain aluminum-zinc-silicon-magnesium as the main elements in the alloy, on this basis hereinafter referred to as "Al-Zn-Si-Mg alloy". The alloy plating may contain other elements as intentional alloying additives or as unavoidable impurities. Herein, the phrase "Al-Zn-Si-Mg alloy" should be understood to cover alloy coatings containing other elements, and the other elements may be intentionally added alloy additives or unavoidable impurities. The metal coated steel strip can be sold as an end product by itself or as a coated end product with a brush-applied coating on one or both surfaces of the steel strip. [0003] The present invention specifically but not exclusively relates to a method for improving the ductility of Al-Zn-Si-Mg coatings on...
