Problems solved by technology

One known cause is that the posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) does not work optimally with the tibial insert, causing the femur to translate unreasonably anteriorly in flexion and creating impingement between the posterior lip of the tibial insert and the posterior femur
This is clearly related to the difficulty in obtaining optimal postoperative PCL function

Embodiment Construction

[0042] Embodiments of the present invention will be described in detail herein; however, it is to be understood that the disclosed embodiments are merely illustrative of the invention, which may be embodied in various forms. In addition, each example given in connection with various embodiments of the invention is presented by way of illustration, not limitation. Furthermore, none of the figures are necessarily to scale and some features may be exaggerated to show details of particular components. Therefore, specific details of construction and use disclosed herein are not to be interpreted as limiting, but merely as representative principles for teaching one skilled in the art to broadly employ the present invention.

[0043] As noted above, adjustment of the posterior tibial slope is often difficult to achieve during surgery.

[0044] In this regard, various embodiments of the present invention may provide a "family" (ie, a large number) of different fixed-grade tibial inse...

Abstract

One embodiment of the present invention relates to a knee prosthesis system with at least a first tibial portion element (a tibial insert or a tibial insert trial) and a second tibial portion element (a tibial insert or a tibial insert trial), wherein each of the first tibial portion element and the second tibial portion element has a different slope. Another embodiment of the present invention relates to a method of implanting a knee prosthesis, wherein the method utilizes at least a first tibial portion element (a tibial insert or a tibial insert trial) and a second tibial portion element (a tibial insert or a tibial insert trial), wherein each of the first tibial portion element and the second tibial portion element has a different slope.
