Embodiment Construction

[0066] Hereinafter, the term 'optical access point (OAP)' may correspond to the term 'first transmitting unit', and the OAP may further include a second receiver. Multiple OAPs can exist. The term "optical transceiver / transceiver (OT)" may correspond to the term "first receiving unit", and the OT may include a second transmitter unit. There can be multiple OTs.

Abstract

The invention relates to an aircraft data communication system as well as an aircraft comprising such a data communication system, in particular a wireless optical communication system inside an aircraft cabin and outside for aircraft services. The aircraft data communication system comprises a first sending unit 10 comprising a first sender 11 and a first modulator 13, and a first receiving unit 30 comprising a first receiver 32 and a first demodulator 34. The communication system 1 is adapted for a signal transmission between the first sender and the first receiver, wherein the signal transmission between the first sending unit and the first receiving unit is effected by light, and wherein the first modulator is adapted for modulating an amplitude of the transmitted light.

Description

[0001] References to related applications [0002] This application claims the benefit of the filing date of US Provisional Patent Application No. 61 / 125788, filed April 29, 2008, the disclosure of which is hereby incorporated by reference. technical field [0003] The invention relates to an aircraft data communication system, in particular a wireless optical communication system for aircraft services inside and outside the aircraft cabin, and an aircraft comprising such a data communication system. Background technique [0004] Currently, data communication inside the aircraft cabin and for external aircraft services is mainly based on wired signal guidance or on wireless radio frequency (RF) signal transmission. Wired signaling is less flexible in terms of aircraft cabin (re)configuration, short-lived customer requests, and lead times for additional weight, cost and design work compared to an aircraft with standard equipment. Signal transmission in aircraft cabins based ...
