Embodiment Construction

[0019] The present invention relates to active optical cables that are well suited for consumer applications. and figure 1 Unlike the QSFP active optical cable 2 shown in , the active optical cable of the present invention includes at least one consumer input / output (I / O) optical transceiver module (hereinafter referred to as a CIO optical transceiver module), the CIO optical transceiver module tor modules are ideal for consumer applications. According to an exemplary or illustrative embodiment, figure 1 The plug housing 5 shown in has been modified to accommodate at least one CIO optical transceiver module. Additionally, with figure 1 The active optical cable 2 shown in the optical transceiver module using the aforementioned parallel components is different, and the CIO optical transceiver module includes two single-line (singlet) laser diodes and two single-line photodiodes for providing two transmission channels and Two receive channels. Because single-line laser diode...

Abstract

An active optical cable is provided that is well suited for consumer applications. In contrast to known Quad Small Form-Factor Pluggable (QSFP) active optical cables, the active optical cable incorporates at least one consumer input / output (I / O) optical transceiver module that is well suited for consumer applications. The plug housing of the known QSFP active optical cable has been modified to house at least one CIO optical transceiver module that utilizes laser diode and photodiode singlets, rather than the parallel laser diode and photodiode arrays used in the known QSFP active optical cables. These features reduce the overall cost of the active optical cable and make it well suited for consumer applications.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to active optical cables. More specifically, the present invention relates to active optical cables well suited for consumer applications. Background technique [0002] An active optical cable is a fiber optic cable terminated at one or both ends with a plug containing an optical transceiver module. The plug has a housing that is generally configured to be received in an opening formed in a cage. The mechanical coupling features on the plug housing form a catch that interlocks with the mechanical coupling features on the cage to secure the plug housing to the cage. When the plug housing is fully inserted into the cage, the latches of the plug housing cooperate with one or more of the mechanical coupling features on the cage to lock the plug housing within the cage. The latch of the plug housing is generally operable by a user to be placed in an unlocked position that decouples the plug housing from the cage, thereby all...
