Embodiment Construction

[0038] Novel methods and systems for measuring and detecting fuel pipeline leaks are described. The methods and systems utilize continuous and / or periodic measurements of fuel pipelines to detect leaks of fuel, such as liquid and / or gaseous hydrocarbons, hydrogen, and carbon oxides. Typically, the fuel conduit is enclosed in an airtight seal such that a passage is formed through the fuel conduit and the seal. Measurements can be made using known industrial analyzers for hydrocarbons and other combustible gases and leak detectors. The pressure drop in the channel is compensated by controlling the feed flow into the channel to match the pumping rate of the analyzer. The temperature and motion of the gas sample can be controlled by heating the incoming air. The system may include a control valve for leak source location.

Abstract

The described method and system utilize continuous and / or periodic measurement of the fuel pipes to detect leakage of fuel. In general, the piping (110) is enclosed in an air-tight containment cover (120) so that a passage (135) is formed between the piping (110) and containment cover (120). Measurements can be conducted, using known hydrocarbon and other combustible gases industrial analyzers, and leak detectors (150). Pressure drop within the passage can be compensated by controlling of air inlet flow into the passage, coordinated with the analyzer pumping rate. Temperature and motion of a gas sample can be controlled by heating the inlet air. The system can includes the controlling valves for the leak source localization. The described method and system (600) can be used to analyze and control fuel leak for late lean injection system for combustor of a turbine.

Description

technical field [0001] One or more aspects of the invention relate to methods and systems for continuously and / or periodically gauging fuel lines to detect leaks. The method and system are also useful for detecting leaks in late lean injection arrangements in combustors of turbines. Background technique [0002] Fuel pipeline leaks can lead to fires, explosions and environmental pollution. Additionally, fuel line leak monitoring has become more important as fuel prices increase and hydrocarbon sources dwindle. Additionally, for gas turbine applications, there is a growing interest in flexible fuels, ie, fuels that use a wide range of fuels. Flexible fuels require a wider temperature range to meet delivery and combustion requirements. However, a wider temperature range generally results in higher thermal stress levels and thus increases the likelihood of leaks. [0003] Certain conventional methods of dealing with leaks propose testing for hydrocarbon leaks by setting up ...
