Abstract

A system and method for output limiting of a boosted engine. The present invention discloses a method of operating a turbocharged engine. In one embodiment, engine operation is adjusted in response to a turbocharger expansion ratio. Under some engine operating conditions, engine degradation may be reduced by adjusting engine operation in response to the turbo expansion ratio.

US patent application US2009 / 0090107 discloses a model for estimating turbocharger speed by estimating the turbine drive control law by plotting the measured airflow into the turbine and the desired pressure ratio in the turbine. The method then adjusts the turbine driver to adjust the geometry of the turbocharger turbine.
