The invention provides a method for forwarding a data message and a route device, wherein the method comprises the following steps of: establishing a route interface attribute list with a port number, an inner-layer VLAN ID (Virtual Local Area Network Identity) and an outer-layer VLAN ID as an index of the route interface attribute list; determining the index according to the type and the configuration of a route interface; analyzing the received data message, finding out the route interface attribute list according to the port number, the inner-layer VLAN ID and the outer-layer VLAN ID according to an analyzed result, and obtaining the attribute of the route interface; and carrying out route forwarding according to the received data message information and the route interface attribute. According to the method for forwarding the data message, forwarding list options and forwarding processes of different types of route interfaces are unified.
