Problems solved by technology

[0003] An application written for one computing device is designed for that computing device's specific touch-sensitive surface and specific display resolution, and therefore the application cannot be used directly by other devices
This is cumbersome for application developers creating applications for multiple devices and creates a significant cognitive burden on users who must learn different APIs for the same application when the same application is executed by different devices

Embodiment Construction

[0020] Reference will now be made in detail to the embodiments, examples of which are illustrated in the accompanying drawings. In the following detailed description, numerous specific details are set forth in order to provide a thorough understanding of the present invention. It will be apparent, however, to one skilled in the art that the present invention may be practiced without these specific details. In other instances, well-known methods, procedures, components, circuits and networks have not been described in detail so as not to unnecessarily obscure aspects of the embodiments.

[0021] It will also be understood that although the terms "first", "second", etc. may be used herein to describe various elements, these elements should not be limited by these terms. These terms are only used to distinguish one element from another. For example, a first contact could be termed a second contact, and, similarly, a second contact could be termed a first contact, without depart...

Abstract

A method is performed at a multifunction device with a touch-sensitive display. In a first mode of operation, an application is executed and a graphical user interface of the application is displayed at a first resolution that matches the display resolution of the application when executed on a handheld device distinct from the multifunction device. In a second mode of operation, the application is executed and the graphical user interface of the application is displayed at a second resolution that is larger than the first resolution.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention generally relates to electronic devices having touch-sensitive surfaces. More particularly, the present invention relates to display resolution of applications executing on electronic devices having touch-sensitive surfaces. Background technique [0002] The use of touch-sensitive surfaces as input devices for computers and other electronic computing devices has increased significantly in recent years. Exemplary touch-sensitive surfaces include touchpads and touchscreen displays. Such surfaces are widely used for manipulating user interface objects on displays. [0003] Applications written for one computing device are designed for that computing device's specific touch-sensitive surface and specific display resolution, and thus cannot be used directly by other devices. This is cumbersome for application developers creating applications for multiple devices and creates a significant cognitive burden on users who must learn diff...
