The method comprises the following steps of: initializing parameters; forecasting the time delay of the main path and each alternative path according to the initialized parameters; computing and forecasting the bandwidth and the packet loss of the main path and each alternative path; computing the comprehensive performance evaluation value of each alternative path; respectively comparing the comprehensive performance evaluation value of each alternative path with the comprehensive performance evaluation threshold value of the path, if the comprehensive performance evaluation value of each alternative path is less than or equal to the comprehensive performance evaluation threshold value of the path, selecting the alternative path with the minimum comprehensive performance evaluation value to replace the main path in the alternative path of which the comprehensive performance evaluation value is less than or equal to the comprehensive performance evaluation threshold value of the path, and automatically switching the main path; and finally, carrying out congestion control and/or retransmission avoidance.
