Abstract

The present invention provides a method and a circuit for controlling a light emitting diode (Light emitting diodes, referred to as LED). In one embodiment, the LED integrated circuit controller provided in the present invention comprises a voltage regulating circuit cooperated with an AC power supply and a current setting circuit. The voltage regulating circuit comprises a depletion device for receiving the AC voltages and generating unregulated voltages, and a bandgap voltage reference circuit for receiving the unregulated voltages and generating substantially constant DC voltages. The current setting circuit receives the substantially constant DC voltages, and provides substantially constant DC currents to drive a series of LEDs or a plurality of series of parallel LEDs. Further, the LED integrated circuit controller also comprises another depletion device for protecting the LED integrated circuit controller from the damage of external high voltage. In this way, the LED integrated circuit controller can work with directly with the AC power supply.
