The navigation device comprises a map data storage device, a network connecting device, a GPS (Global Positioning System) receiving device, a display device, a map data managing module, a navigation functional module and a display device. A navigation method capable of updating the increment of the map data is characterized by comprising the following steps: dividing the map data according to an administrative region boundary; simultaneously updating the data by a navigation data supply module; before downloading differential map data from a server, obtaining summary information from the server and showing the summary information to a user; and after downloading the differential map data from the server, emphasizing the displaying of a detailed updated content in the differential map data on the device before the map data is updated. The navigation device provided by the invention has the advantages: the user can select one or more updating regions for updating the map data according to the individual requirement; the updating time is saved; the user can select to update or not; the user experience is met; and the running of the device is stable and reliable.
