Abstract

The present invention provides arthroscopic spatulas that minimize contact between body fluids and the spatula handpiece. Arthroscopic spatulas typically include a cutting assembly that mates with a handpiece. In one embodiment, the spatula includes a hub connecting the cutting assembly to the handpiece and having an outlet capable of delivering cut tissue and fluid from the device. In another embodiment, the spatula includes a hub that can be retrofitted into an existing spatula handpiece having a lumen to remove cut tissue and fluid. The hub also includes an outlet that redirects fluid away from the handpiece.
