Abstract

An object of the present invention is to suppress a decrease in insulation resistance between an electrode and a case in an electrically heated catalyst (EHC). The EHC (1) according to the present invention includes: a heating element (3) that heats the catalyst by being energized to generate heat; a casing (4) that accommodates the heating element; ) between the insulating parts (5) for electrical insulation; through the space between the inner wall surface of the housing (4) and the outer peripheral surface of the heating element (3), that is, the electrode chamber (9) and the heating element (3) a connected electrode (7); and a communication path (10) that communicates the electrode chamber with a portion of an exhaust system of an internal combustion engine other than a portion where the EHC is installed.
