The method includes: obtaining a first electric current in a branch circuit; judging whether the first electric current is not less than a preset electric current so as to obtain a first judging result; judging whether the first electric current satisfies a preset condition so as to obtain a second judging result; determining that single phase earth faults occur on the load side of the branch circuit when the first judging result states clearly that the first electric current is not less than the preset electric current and the second judging result states clearly that the first electric current dissatisfies the preset condition; and determining that the single phase earth faults occur on the power source side of the branch circuit when the first judging result states clearly that the first electric current is less than the preset electric current and the second judging result states clearly that the first electric current dissatisfies the preset condition.
