Abstract

A method and an access server for distributing announcements to user equipment operating in a packet-switched telecommunication network, such as a Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) network, are disclosed. The method includes receiving an announcement from a media source, receiving a cache indication from the media source allowing caching of the announcement, and sending the received announcement to a user device. The access server may, upon receiving the cache indication and the advertisement, cache the advertisement in a cache unit associated with the access server. Additionally, methods and media sources for generating advertisements and cache indications that allow the access server to cache the advertisements in cooperation with an access server are disclosed.
