The invention relates to an image capturing apparatus based on a single sensor and optical filtering. The apparatus comprises a shell, an illuminator, an objective lens, a collimating lens, a class chessboard filtering sheet, a focusing lens, an image sensor, a connector and an image processor. The shell is a closed-type cavity structure. An internal cavity is divided into an illumination cavity and an image capturing cavity. The image capturing cavity is successively divided into an objective lens cavity, a filtering cavity, a focusing cavity and a sensor cavity by separation plates from left to right. The illuminator is arranged in the illumination cavity. The objective lens and the collimating lens are arranged in the objective lens cavity. The chessboard filtering sheet is arranged in the focusing cavity. The focusing lens is arranged in the focusing cavity. The image sensor is arranged in the sensor cavity. An output terminal of the image sensor is electrically connected with the image processor via the connector. The apparatus of the invention can use a plurality of light sources.
