Method for vulcanizing HTV composite hollow insulators using the extrusion process

The present invention relates to an insulating device comprising an insulating body consisting of a hollow tube or solid cylinder made of ceramic or composite material and an unvulcanized extruded HCR / HTV silicone shielding shell. The present invention further relates to the use of a novel vulcanization method for crosslinking the addition-curing silicone elastomer used. According to the invention, infrared heat emitters (Fig. 2) are used for this vulcanization method, arranged radially at a defined distance around the rotating insulating device. The method comprises (a) providing an insulating body, (b) applying an adhesion promoter (primer) to the insulating body, (c) extruding the silicone profile onto the primed insulating body, (d) repairing and finishing the unvulcanized HTV silicone shielding shell, and (e) vulcanization with infrared heat emitters having a multi-stage temperature profile. The multi-stage vulcanization process prevents the formation of bubbles and foam in the silicone structure, which are detrimental to the electrical properties. In the first stage, reaction gases can diffuse through the not yet fully vulcanized silicone surface. In the second temperature stage, the silicone is completely vulcanized. The silicone material must be chemically adjusted to this process in terms of its reactivity (vulcanization curve). Unlike convection heat in conventional autoclave or oven processes, infrared heat radiation penetrates deep into the material, resulting in excellent adhesion of the silicone to the insulating body. This allows for vulcanization within the silicone volume, preventing bubble formation caused by reaction gases, as these gases can still escape through the open surface.
