Problems solved by technology

[0005] Digital radio links can be subject to interference from other nearby radio transmitters and ambient noise, causing corruption or loss of one of many data packets in transmission
This can lead to missing information at the receiver, resulting in imperfect output

[0066] figure 1 A wireless microphone device 2 is shown, linked by radio to a remote public address system 4 . The wireless microphone device 2 comprises a microphone element 6 connected to an analog-to-digital converter (ADC) 8 . The digital output of the ADC 8 is fed to a wireless audio transmitter chip (ATX) 10 . The ADC 8 and ATX 10 are controlled by a microcontroller (MCU) 12 which is also accommodated in the wireless microphone device 2 .

[0067] The public address system 4 comprises a wireless audio receiver chip (ARX) 14 , the output of which is connected to a digital-to-analog converter (DAC) 18 . The ARX 14 and DAC 18 are controlled by a microcontroller (MCU) 16 . The analog output of the DAC 18 is connected to loudspeakers 20 in the public address system 4 .

[0068] Additional components such as amplifiers, filters, power supplies etc. are not shown for clarity, but are arranged and operated in a conventional manner.

Abstract

A system for data packet streaming comprising a source device (2) with a radio transceiver (10), and a sink device (4) with a radio transceiver (14). said source device (2) is configured to receive or generate a stream of data packets at a bit rate; and to transmit over the radio successive data frames, each data frame comprising one or more packets from said stream not previously transmitted A contiguous collection of data packets (22a). The receiving device (4) is configured to receive a data frame and determine whether one or more data packets (22a) in the data frame have been received correctly or incorrectly; and to send an acknowledgment message by radio (22c), said acknowledgment message (22c) indicating that one or more of said data packets (22a) have been correctly received, and / or configured to transmit over the radio an acknowledgment message indicating that said One or more of the packets were not received correctly. The source device (2) is configured to: if the source device (2) determines that the data packet (22a) was not correctly received by the receiving device, then the source device compares the data packet (24b) in the subsequent data frame with One or more data packets (24a) from the stream that were not previously sent are resent together. The source device (2) is further configured to: if the source device does not receive an acknowledgment message (24c) within the acknowledgment period after sending the data frame, then the source device (2) will send a One or more data packets (26b) of the data frame or data frames are retransmitted together with corresponding one or more data packets (26a) from the stream that were not previously sent.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to the communication of streams of data packets by radio. Background technique [0002] Sometimes there is a need to reliably stream short-lived packets of data from a transmitter to a receiver over the radio. [0003] For example, wireless microphones can be connected to a public address system via a digital radio link. Audio data from the microphone must be received, decoded and amplified with minimal latency to provide an acceptable user experience. Another example is a wireless subwoofer that streams audio data over a radio link to a home theater system, where the signal from the subwoofer must be synchronized with the audio signal from other (possibly wired) speakers. As another example, in the case of live broadcasts, television cameras stream audiovisual data to a processing center over a radio link. [0004] In all these examples, only very small data receive buffers can be tolerated (eg, on the order of millise...
