[0224] The following Examples 1 to 25 illustrate certain aspects and advantages of the invention, which should not be construed as limiting thereby.

[0225] As can be readily determined by reading the examples below, all of the example formulations contained no organic diluents. Also, all example formulations are free of N,N-dimethylacrylamide (DMA). Additionally, all of the example formulations below are free of polymeric wetting agents. In addition, all example formulations included at least one hydrophilic amide monomer with one N-vinyl group. Most of the example formulations (Examples 4-5, 8-13, 15, and 17-25) included a second siloxane with a number average molecular weight greater than 7,000 Daltons.

[0226] The following chemicals are mentioned in Examples 1 to 25 and may be mentioned by their abbreviations.

[0227] Si1: 2-methyl-2-acrylic acid 2-[3-(9-butyl-1,1,3,3,5,5,7,7,9,9-decamethylpentasiloxane-1 -yl)propoxy]ethyl ester (CAS No. 1052075-57-6). (Si1 was ob...

Abstract

The present invention describes ophthalmically acceptable wettable silicone hydrogel contact lenses. The lens is derived from a polymerizable composition comprising a first siloxane monomer represented by formula (I): wherein m, n, R1 and R2 are as defined herein, the first a siloxane monomer having a number average molecular weight of 400 Daltons to 700 Daltons; and a second siloxane monomer having a number average molecular weight greater than 7,000 Daltons; present in the polymerizable composition The total amount of siloxane monomers in is from 30 unit parts to 50 unit parts; the lens further comprises units derived from at least one hydrophilic amide monomer having one N-vinyl group, the hydrophilic The amide monomer is present in the polymerizable composition in an amount from 30 unit parts to 60 unit parts. The lens has an ophthalmically acceptable wettable lens surface when fully hydrated.

Description

[0001] Related Application Cross Reference [0002] This application claims the benefit of prior US Provisional Patent Application No. 61 / 447,176, filed February 28, 2011, under 35 U.S.C. §119(e), which is hereby incorporated by reference in its entirety. technical field [0003] The present invention relates to silicone hydrogel contact lenses and related compositions and methods. Background technique [0004] Commercially and clinically, silicone hydrogel contact lenses are a popular alternative to conventional hydrogel contact lenses (ie, silicone-free or silicone-containing hydrogel contact lenses). It is believed that the presence of siloxanes in silicone hydrogel contact lens formulations can affect the properties of silicone hydrogel contact lenses obtained therefrom. For example, it is believed that the presence of a silicone component in a contact lens results in relatively higher oxygen transmission rates compared to conventional hydrogel contact lenses that do n...
