The video screenshot method comprises the steps of receiving bit stream parameters of the bit stream of a corresponding client from the multimedia stream system, obtaining the maximum number of layers from the multimedia stream system, obtaining a second number of layers from the bit stream parameters, determining the enhancement layers needed by generating the video screenshots corresponding to the video data according to the maximum number of layers and the second number of layers and determining whether the enhancement layers needed by generating the video screenshots are obtained from the multimedia stream system, and if the enhancement layers are required, obtaining the enhancement layers needed by generating the video screenshots from the multimedia stream system based on the correlation of the enhancement layers, otherwise, directly generating the video screenshots according to the enhancement layers received by the client.
