Problems solved by technology

[0003] When an aircraft is in flight, it is difficult to detect when a subsystem or component of the aircraft begins to operate abnormally, and / or to properly diagnose the specific source of the abnormal operation of the subsystem or component
While these abnormal operating conditions may persist after the aircraft has landed, in many cases they do not, making it more difficult to properly diagnose the specific source of abnormal operation of a subsystem or component

Abstract

The disclosed embodiments relate to methods and systems for monitoring sub-systems of an aircraft to detect an abnormal condition, and for identifying one or more sources that are causing the abnormal condition. In response to detecting a trigger event during flight of the aircraft, data for a plurality of relevant parameters is measured and stored in a parameter file. The parameter file is transmitted from the aircraft over a wireless communication link, and relayed to a ground support network. At the ground support network, the measured data for the plurality of the relevant parameters is then used to identify the one or more sources that are causing the abnormal condition.

Description

technical field [0001] Embodiments of the invention relate generally to aircraft, and more particularly to methods and systems for monitoring aircraft. Background technique [0002] Modern aircraft are often equipped with complex systems, such as flight data recorders, which report information and store in-flight data. Additionally, ground-based systems support aircraft maintenance. [0003] While the aircraft is in flight, it can be difficult to detect when a subsystem or component of the aircraft begins to operate abnormally, and / or to properly diagnose the specific source causing the abnormal operation of the subsystem or component. While these abnormal operating conditions may persist after the aircraft has landed, in many cases they do not, making it more difficult to properly diagnose the specific source of abnormal operation of a subsystem or component. [0004] There is a need for methods and systems for monitoring the health of an aircraft and various components a...
